Description

This is a lampridiform fish Natgeosocus sorini from the Lower Oligocene (about 36 million years ago) of the northern Caucasus (Republic of Adygeya, Russia).

The paleontologist Alexander Bannikov and his team unearthed the fossilized skeleton of a new genus of extinct bony fish. The new genus was dubbed Natgeosocus, to honor of National Geographic Society.
